Where can I sell used college textbooks

The Quarter is over and it is time to sell your used textbooks. We hear some common questions about what is the best way to sell textbooks? How can I make the most money? What textbook buyback is the best?

Successfully selling your used college textbooks actually starts long before the end of the Quarter. You can maximize your return by preplanning. Here are some tips:
  • Consider the resale value as you use the book. Textbook care affects its condition and resale value.
  • Near the end of the Quarter ask your Professor if the same book and the same edition will be used for the next class. If a new edition is to be used ask the Professor if the changes are minor enough that next Quarters students could use your book. This information can make the difference between successfully selling your textbook or having a door stop.
  • Ask fellow students, especially upper classmates, if there is an online bulletin board dedicated to local on-campus textbook exchange.
Selling Time: Ease vs $$

Get the best price by selling textbooks yourself. I have found the best demand (quickest sales) from Amazon and Half.com . There are other places to sell textbooks but these two get the most eyeballs. Don't overlook the convenience and speed of selling to a online book seller like eCampus (a little cash in hand could be better than unsold inventory online). eCampus textbook buyback program is easy and they will provide quick online quotes to help you decide which is the best for you.

Half.com not dead!

Half.com has long been one of everyone's favorite sources for used textbooks. Both used textbook buyers and sellers found it the best site to market used textbooks. Then eBay bought Half.com and last year announced they were closing the service after textbook season was over for fall 04. eBay tried to get everyone to list their used textbooks on eBay but Half would not die. This last fall saw record sales at Half.com. Well eBay saw the light (or at least the dollars) and last month announced that Half.com would live on.
To show their support and desire for its' success eBay just released new customer coupon for Half.com of $5.00 OFF - First time buyers only (expires 1/31/05) purchases of $50.00 or more Code = HOLIDAY5
